Be動詞と一般動詞の使い分け (主語が3人称単数)¶

主語が he, she, it や、Ken, a cat のような「3人称単数」になると、動詞のルールが少しだけ変化します。この変化が、Be動詞と一般動詞で大きく異なるため、英語のつまずきポイントになりやすい箇所です。一つずつ、はっきりと区別して覚えましょう。

3人称単数とは？（おさらい）¶

私 (I) と あなた (you) 以外で、一人（ひとつ）の人やモノのこと。
具体例: he (彼), she (彼女), it (それ), Ken (ケン), my mother (私のお母さん), this cat (この猫) など。

Be動詞は is に、一般動詞は s や es がつく形（三単現のs）に変化します。

意味の根本は同じ

Be動詞は is の後ろに not を置きます。一般動詞は、助っ人として does not (doesn't) が登場し、動詞は元の形（原形）に戻るのが最重要ポイントです。

作り方	`is` の後ろに `not` を置く (短縮形は `isn't`)	動詞の前に `does not (doesn't)` を置き、動詞は元の形に戻す
例文 (he)	He is not (isn't) a doctor.	He does not (doesn't) play baseball. ( `plays` → `play` )
例文 (she)	She is not (isn't) tired.	She does not (doesn't) have a dog. ( `has` → `have` )

動詞の形に注意！

doesn't を使ったのに、He doesn't plays... のように動詞に s をつけたままにする間違いが非常に多いです。 does が s の役割を代わりにしてくれたので、動詞は元の楽な形に戻れる、と覚えましょう。

否定文と同じく、一般動詞の文では助っ人の Does が登場し、動詞は元の形に戻ります。
